A small studio that builds what it draws

The Crafted Living is an interior design studio in Hyderabad. We design homes and a few workplaces and cafés each year, then build them with our own site team and a close circle of craftspeople.

Timber shelving set into a brick wall

We started The Crafted Living because we kept seeing the same thing: beautiful drawings that lost something on the way to the site, and homes that looked finished but did not fit the people living in them.

So we work differently. The people who design your home also run its construction. We keep the number of projects small enough that the founders see every one of them. And we lean on the craft traditions around us — Deccan stonework, teak joinery, cane, brass — because they suit this climate and they make each home particular.

What we believe

  1. Start with the people, not the catalogue

We ask how you cook, where you read and who visits before we talk about colours. The answers decide the plan.

  2. Keep what matters

Inherited furniture, a painting from your first flat, the brass lamps from your grandmother’s house. We design around them.

  3. Use materials that age well

Stone, solid timber, lime, cane and brass. Things that look better after ten monsoons, not worse.

  4. Draw it, then build it ourselves

Our designers and site team work together every day, so what we draw is what gets built.

The people who make it

A close circle of workshops and craftspeople, most of them within a few hours of Hyderabad.

  • Carpentry and joinery

A family workshop that has made our wardrobes, kitchens and tables since the start.

  • Stone and jaali carving

Sandstone and Tandur stone carvers who work from our full-size drawings.

  • Cane and rattan

Weavers who re-cane heirloom chairs and make new panels for doors and headboards.

  • Metal and brass

Workshops for handles, lamps, railings and screens, in brass and blackened steel.

  • Lime plaster and polish

Applicators for lime and tadelakt-style finishes, and French polishers for old teak.

  • Textiles

Hand-block printers and weavers for curtains, upholstery and cushions.
